Henry Wallace Smith, 81 of Lander, WY passed away November 7, 2018 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY from cancer.
Henry was born September 6, 1937 to Henry Lee Smith and Goldie Ann Bennett in Webster County Missouri.
On June 4, 1966 Henry married Judy Irene Lampman in Bairoil, WY. Together they had three sons.
Growing up on the family farm in a large family of seven children, Henry developed his strong work ethic at an early age helping with the family. As a young man Henry came to Wyoming from Missouri in 1959 to work as a fence contractor for two years before buying the fencing business from his boss. He went on to build hundreds of miles of range fence in southern Wyoming and northern Colorado. In 1968 he purchased the local Moving and Storage company which he operated until his retirement in 1999. Retirement was an adjustment as he still showed up every day to give the next generation operating advice for the company.
In 2013, tired of the Carbon County wind Henry and Judy moved to Lander, WY where he enjoyed landscaping their new property and cultivating his garden. Henry was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved spending time at the cabin. In his retirement he also enjoyed wood working and spending time with his grandchildren.
Henry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy Smith; three sons, Adam and wife Trinette of Rawlins, WY; Ben and wife Becky of Rawlins, WY; Craig and his wife Colette of Lander, WY; three grandchildren, Henry T. Smith and Ferris C. Smith of Rawlins, WY; Rosie A. Smith of Lander, WY; two sisters, Violet and husband Herb Batson; Ada Coffman; two brothers, Bill Smith; Ted Smith and wife Julia; two sisters-in-law, Linda and husband Perry Lee; Donnie Lampman; one brother-in-law Larry and wife Lucila Lampman and twenty two nieces and nephews.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Goldie Smith and two brothers Howard Smith and James Smith.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Hudsons Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope Drive, Lander, WY with interment to follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery.
