Helsha Elizabeth Acuña, 75, of Lander, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on November 5th with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. Born in New Jersey to Patrice and Augustine Acuña, the family moved to Southern California when Helsha was young. Helsha graduated from University of California at Santa Barbara. She completed her education as a single mother after becoming a parent to twin girls. She later met the love of her life, Corey S Dubin and the two shared another daughter together. Helsha, who loved and had horses most of her life, ran a boarding and training stable in California with her daughter Cole, where she bred, trained and showed Arabian horses.
In 1997, Helsha moved to Lander, Wyoming to work at Central Wyoming College. She taught Native American studies, philosophy and would also team teach other topics occasionally. Helsha was loved by many of those she had the privilege to teach. Being an educator was at the core of who she was and she adored it. She loved her students. Helsha is survived by her brother Ted Darcus, daughters Checole "Cole" Kraft, Kalie Laubua Stevens and Sasheen Acuña and son-in-law Ian Kraft. She had many grand children, 3 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her chihuahua, Brutus.
Memorial service date is to be determined. If any of her friends or loved ones wish to assist in planning or participating in her memorial, please email checolekraft@gmail.com.
