Helen Shirreffs Gibson was born on May 11, 1917 in London England to George M. and Helen Webster Shirreffs, and passed away on May 29, 2011. At the age of 5 1/2 years old, she and her Mother came to the United States to be with her Father in Chicago. After a few years they moved to Lander where she attended schools in Lander, graduating from FCVHS. She married Harrison Parks on September 22, 1940 and her Son George was born to this union. After Harrison lost his life in a construction accident, she moved from Casper, where they lived, back to Lander where she later married Clarke Gibson and a Daughter Beverlie was born to this union.
Helen worked at the County Court House in the titles department for a number of years for Mr. Fischer. Helen and Clarke later ran Gibson's shoe store/Guys and Gals, and was Mom to her family.
She was a charter member and Majority Member of Jobs Daughters Bethel #17 Lander. She was also a member of Olivet Chapter #3 Order of the Eastern Star for 73 years.
Helen is survived by her son, George and his wife Noeleen Parks of Norfolk, Virginia, a Daughter Beverlie and her Husband DeWayne Appleby of Lander, a step daughter Janet Manor of California, a son-in-law Gene Manor and his wife Lynn of San Pedro, California. Grand Children Leanne, Kim, Terry, Barbara and Chris, along with 10 Great Grand Children, and Two Great Great Grand Children. She is also survived by members of the Shirreffs and Webster families, and Good Friends, Tara, Tony, and Taylor Romans and Susan and Tom Dewey.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one Grandson, Scott Manor, and one Granddaughter, Pam Russell.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Westward Heights Nursing Home in care of the activities dept. 150 Caring Way, Lander, WY 82520 or the Scottish Rite Language Clinic for Children in Rock Springs in care of Dwayne Appleby, 175 S. 8th St., Lander, WY 82520.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, June 4, 2011 in the Chapel of Mt. Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope Drive, Lander, WY 82520 with Reverend Tom Peacock, presiding. There will be no visitation. Burial will then follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
