Hazel Irene Buchmeier

Hazel I. Buchmeier died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at home surrounded by family after a short illness. She was 90 years old.
Visitation was Tuesday, June 18, in the Bethel Lutheran Church, 626 Shoshone St., Lander. Burial followed in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
Hazel Irene Buchmeier was born April 21, 1923, in Fraser Township in Martin County, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman and Rellda Behrens. She was the third of nine children.
She grew up on the family farm and received her primary education at a parochial school at the family's church. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1940 and attended Concordia Teacher's College in River Forest, Ill., to obtain her teaching degree. Her first teaching job was at the parochial school where she received her early education. She taught 40 students in grades 1-8.
On May 22, 1945, she married Roy H. Buchmeier at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at Fraser Township. They were married for 53 years and had three children.
The couple lived in San Antonio, Texas, Worthington, Minn., and Missoula, Mont. Mr. Buchmeier's work with the Department of Agriculture took the family to Laramie, Douglas, Jackson, Greybull and Lander.
Mrs. Buchmeier was a homemaker and worked 25 years at Lander Dental Group. She also taught Sunday School at her church and was a 4-H leader for more than 30 years.
Her family said she enjoyed the outdoors and spent countless hours in her rose garden. She also loved fishing, rock hunting, making trips to the mountains and attending the school functions of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Melanie Edeler and her husband Mark of Central Point, Ore., Linda Perkins and her husband Jay of Phoenix, and Roger Buchmeier and his wife Ingrid of Lander; three grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; brothers Lloyd, Verne and Dennis; and sisters Mabel and Bonnie.
