Gloria Alice Isis Phillips
Fort Washakie resident Gloria Alice Isis Phillips 84, died Friday November 6, 2009 at her home. Funeral services were held at Shoshone Episcopal Mission at 10:00 a.m. on November 10
th
with burial in Sacajawea Cemetery at Fort Washakie. A litany service was held on Monday evening, 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Mount Hope in Lander The Rev. Tommy Means of the Shoshone Mission and Darwin Niedo officiated.
Gloria Alice Isis Phillips was born February 13, 1925 in Fort Washakie, Wyoming, she was the daughter of Leslie Isis and Margaret (Maggie) McAdams Isis. Gloria was the ninth of seventeen children. Gloria married Edward Lee Wadda; they had two children Lyle and Donna Wadda Shoyo. Her second marriage was to Homer Phillips in 1955. Gloria and Homer had three children Floyd and Quinn Phillips and Caroline Phillips Mills.
Gloria attended Fort Washakie School AKA "Gravy High" and then graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School in 1945. She was a Page for two years in the State Capitol when George Cross from Dubois was serving as a Senator. Gloria worked at Stewarts Store, Hunters Store and P.H.S. Hospital before it became the Indian Health Service Clinic. Gloria and Irene Large helped with the dedication of the monument honoring Sacajawea that is located across from Hines General Store. Gloria served in the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. July 4 2008 she was a Parade Marshall in the annual Lander Parade.
Gloria treasured traveling with her family, attending pow-wows and the Shoshone Sun Dance, she revered watching her grandchildren play basketball. Mrs. Phillips enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casinos. She loved picking berries and doing beadwork.
Gloria was an avid watcher of daytime drama programs. Gloria was an active member of the Shoshone Episcopalian Mission. She adored her children and grandchildren.
Gloria was proceeded in death by her Grandparents Hugo and Eugena Isis and John and Nancy Enos McAdams, parents Leslie and Maggie Isis, siblings Hattie Moon Deviney, Eugene, Melinda, Elizabeth, Abbott, Katherine, Alvena, Suzette Wagon, Earl, Ione Wadda, Elmer, Baby Girl Isis, Arvilla Crispin, Raymond, Laura Tyler, Janice, cousin Booker Teran who was taken in by uncle Leslie, husbands Edward Wadda and Homer Phillips, daughters Judith Isis, Nancy Wadda Large and Donna Wadda Shoyo, Son-in-law Leroy Mills, Grandchildren Roland Shoyo and Deanne Friday.
She is survived by children Lyle and John Wadda, Caroline Mills, Floyd and Quinn Phillips, Grandchildren Sokai, Tweesna Rose and Ti'nia-pum Raye Mills, Michelle and Kenny Shoyo, Sr., Johnny and Elisa Obando, Leslie and Susanna Phillips, Dustin Panzetanga, Amanda and Verl Phillips, Edward Wadda, Deanne and Buddy Large, Don and Ron Mitchell, Kelly Osborne Pingree, Tommy Dee Osborne, Great grandchildren Ampo Mills, Jordon, Mickel, Konani, Allise, Eddie, Yellowflower and Kenny Shoyo, Ezekial Montoya and Elisia LittleBear, Robert, Joaquin and Andrew Tillman, Nikki Denny, Adrianna Perez, Amber, Aaron Austin and Ayla Pingree, Brianna, Ron, Rhiannon, Tyler Jerrick and Skyzon Mitchell, Carol Day Aragon and Celeste Johnson and numerous other relatives.
