Gladys Ilene Whiteplume

Gladys Ilene Whiteplume, age 68, passed away at Shepherd of the Valley Healthcare Center on Sunday, November 22, 2020.

Evening services will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020 at 393 Lefthand Spur, Arapahoe, Wyoming beginning at 5:00 PM.

Morning services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 beginning at 10:00 AM with Rev. Roxanne Friday officiating.  Burial will follow at Whiteplume Cemetery, Ethete, WY.

Gladys was born on July 2, 1952 in Fort Washakie, Wyoming to Wallace Williams and Ruth Whiteplume.

She was an enrolled Northern Arapaho tribal member.

Gladys attended Mill Creek School and Chilacco Boarding School in Newkirk, Oklahoma during high school. Gladys moved to Berkley California and went to college, also attended nursing school in Denver, Colorado.  Gladys worked with foster children at The Circle of Love Center in Ethete, and was an advocate with the Battered Women's Shelter, also in Ethete, and a nurse's aide at the Wyoming State Training School.

Gladys loved to dance, hang out with all of her relations and friends, play games and socialize, spend time at the Casino and travel.  She loved her grandchildren and special nephew Redhawk Arthur and special friends Alphia Arthur and Sara Runningshield.

Gladys is survived by her children, Chrissy Big Eagle and Jaymes Whiteplume; grandchildren, Tremayne Dixon, Christopher Rollerson, Jr., Jaymes Whiteplume, Jr., Morning Star Whiteplume and Crazy Horse Whiteplume; brothers, Wesley Whiteplume, Lydell Whiteplume and Ronald Whiteplume; sisters, Mae M. McLinnis and Ramona Trudeau; and family member of the Whiteplume, Big Eagle, Revere, Martinez, Nosie Hawk, Rollers, Dixon, Saunders, Arthurs, Whiteman, McLinnis, Runningshield and Large.

Gladys was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Whiteplume Gilchrist; brother, Ira J. Whiteplume; sister, Ruby M. Whiteman; grandparents, James and Mae Whiteplume; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
