Geraldine Lorraine Raynor

Geraldine Lorraine Githens Raynor passed away October 16, 2013, at Help for Health Hospice in Riverton, Wyoming. Visitation has been arranged for on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, Lander. A Memorial Celebration Funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Lander, Wyoming, Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at 2pm. Lorrainewill be laid to rest beside her husband Charles at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Lorraine Raynor was born January 2, 1919, on a homestead three miles north of Douglas, Wyoming. Lorraine was the first daughter of Milton Riley Githensand Geraldine Sledd Githens. Lorraine had two brothers, thirteen years older Will Githens and twelve years older Roy Githens. One sister, two and a half years younger Lela May Githens Adams.
Continued learning was always important to Lorraine, she enjoyed school.At an early age she knew she wanted to be a teacher. After graduation from Converse County High School in 1937, in Douglas, she attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. Her parents moved to Boulder so she could live at home and not travel back and forth from Douglas, Wyoming. Her junior year she transferred to Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Colorado. After teaching four years, getting married, and having her first baby, Lorrainegraduatedin March, 1945, with a BA degree in education.
Lorraine married Charles Willis Raynor July 25, 1942, in Boulder, Colorado.One week after their marriage Charles reported for Army training during WW II.Charles and Lorraine's first child was born while he was at Fort Dix, New Jersey waiting transportation to Europe in June 1944.He served his country in Europe until December 1945. Charles passed away in 1976.
Charles and Lorraine moved to Lander, Wyoming in April, 1953. Lorraine was a homemaker for ten years to raise their three small children.She substituted at South Side Grade School and took a full time teaching position in January, 1955.During the years 1962 thru 1965, Lorraine taught two years in Safford and Wilcox, Arizona and one year at Arapaho, Wyoming. After returning to Wyoming in 1965, Lorraine resumed teaching 6th grade, she retired after twenty-six years in the Lander School.Lorraine taught two generations of children in Lander.
Charles and Lorraine were blessed with three children.John Charles, born June 9, 1944, Robert Frank, born February 25, 1947; and Darlene Geraldine, born June 7, 1948.All three children were born in Boulder, Colorado.Neither Charles nor Lorraine wished to raise their children in the city, so in April, 1953, they purchased a ranch on Snavely Lane, Northwest of Lander.Charles ran the ranch while Lorraine taught school.In 1962, Charles and Lorraine moved their family to Arizona, with the hopes the warmer weather would relieve Charles's arthritis pain. However, this was not "home" so in the spring of 1965, they moved their family back to Lander, buying a ranch on the Upper North Fork Road, Lorraine lived on the ranch until her death.
Lorraine was very involved with 4-H clubs, being a leader throughout the years her children were in 4-H.She was also a member of the Milford Home Makers Club, holding several offices as a member of the Farm Bureau Club and offices in the Delta Kappa Gamma.Lorraine enjoyed all homemaking activities including cooking, sewing, crochet, gardening, reading and genealogy. She was very proud of her large family, watching them grow, becoming adults and pursuing their educations, as she herself was driven to become a college graduate something her siblings did not have the opportunity to do.

Crystal Raynor Metzenheim and Brian Metzenheim of Reno, Nv. Peggy Raynor Wolf and Scott Keele of Lander, Melissa Raynor Sunseri and Joe Sunseri of Wondermere,Fl. Abbey Raynor Copehaven of San Tan Valley, Az.Adam Raynor of Laramie, Wy.LeRoy Rossi and Nikki of Lander, Yvonne Rossi Thornley and Samuel Thornley of Riverton, Wy.and Travis Rossiand Cyndi of Rock Springs. Wy.Lorraine is also survived by 13 Great Grandchildren: Allyson RaynorThayer, Sean Raynor, Michael Raynor, Daniel Raynor, Jordan Raynor, all of Winnemucca, Nv. Jami Rossi of Sheridan, Briana Wolf of Lander, Tyrel Wolf of Laramie, Macy Copehaven of San Tan Valley Az., Nicholas Sunseri of Wandermere,Florida, Danen and Derean Thornley of Riverton, andTrysten and Brooklynn of Rock Springs, Wy.Also two Great Great Grandchildren: Willow and Cole Thayer of Winnemucca, Nv. Lorraine is also survived by three nephews Bill Githens, Dick Githens and Ted Adams; also two nieces Karen Burgman and Peggy Houser.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents Milton and Geraldine Githens, brothers Will and Roy Githens, sister Lela Githens Adams, husband Charles Raynor and son-in-law Frank Rossi.
