George Frank Patik, 91, of Lander, Wyoming died on August 5, 2016 at home in Lander. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
George was born August 3, 1925 to Stephen Patik Sr. and Addie Marie Mills in Poposia, WY.
He was raised in Poposia, a coal mining town 5 miles south of Hudson Wyoming; there he attended elementary school grade 1-8. He was a graduate of F.C.V.H.S. in Lander. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and proudly served his country aboard USS Edwards, assigned to a 40mm machine gun, and later assigned to the USS Drew an amphibious attack ship. He was awarded 4 Bronze Stars, Invasions Asiatic Pacific; 1 Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation; and a Victory Metal of Honor WWII. He was honorable discharged May 27, 1946. He was very proud to have served during WWII with his 3 brothers, all Navy and they all returned home safely.
He married Dolores Marie Hailey, November 28, 1946. They had three daughters, Dorothy "Dottie" (Glenn) Pierson, Georgia (Ron) Osban, and Darlene (Dale) Fronk.
George worked as a carpenter. He owned his own ice business. He furthered his education by graduating from Rocky Mountain Institute in Denver. In 1958, he owned and operated "Patik's Radio and TV Shop in Lander. Later he became a certified guard at US Steel law enforcement. He continued his career working for the City of Lander for 25 years as a Building and Construction Inspector. He was certified with the State of Wyoming Electrical, Fire Marshall, building inspector, and he was a master electrician.
He was an avid sportsman, hunting, fishing, boating and loved the mountains.An affluent musician enjoying the piano, organ, accordion, steel guitar; and he enjoyed playing for parities and weddings. In the past few years he found an interest in woodwork and enjoyed carving.
A 50 year member of the Masonic Wyoming Lodge #2 and was an honorable past master. George served 18 years as secretary of the Lodge. He was a High Priest Royal Arch Mason Yorkrite, Honorary with the 32nd degree KCCH.He was a 50 year member of Scottish Rites. Charter member of the Lander Consistory. Demolay Dad, Job's daughter Dad, and counselor. Tyler Grand Lodge and Educational Councilor Grand Lodge of Wyoming. George was a member of the American Legion, VFW. Frank Homec Post member and Chaplain in Hudson, Wyoming.
Survivors include his wife Dolores, their children, grandchildren; Troy (Cara) Pierson, Toni (Nick) Hudson, Crista O. (Jimmy) Arnold, George (Cindy) Heinrich, Jeff (Sarah) Heinrich, Brian (Melissa) Heinrich. Eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Patik, Sr., mother, Addie Patik. Three brothers, Stephen Patik, Jr., Edward Patik, John Patik. One sister, Anna May Patik "Roe", nephew, Mike Patik, niece, Karen Hutchinson.
