Garve Leroy Chapman

December 29, 1936 — November 2, 2016

Garve Chapman, longtime Wyoming contractor and 46 year resident of Lander passed away on 11/2/16 at Wyoming Medical Center due to long term heart disease.Services will be held on Monday Nov 21st at 2pm at Lander United Methodist Church.

Garve was born Dec 29, 1936 on a farm near Exeter, Nebraska to Roy and Alice Chapman.He attended high school in Exeter and continued his education at the University of NE at Kearney earning a degree in business administration.He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and was discharged in July 1963.Most of his enlistment was spent in Germany.After the service he moved to Denver, CO and was reunited with his high school sweetheart, Jane Dyer.She was a Registered Nurse at the University of Colorado Medical Center.They were married on 3/14/64 in Littleton CO and had two daughters, Stacey and Tracy.

They moved to Thermopolis, WY in 1968 and then to Lander in 1970, raising their family and also very active in civic affairs.Garve worked for construction firms as their financial officer over the years and finally a partner in their own bridge company, C.C. & G.

He was a member of the Lions Club and president for one year.While in Lions he was instrumental in the fund raising and construction of the Lions Club picnic shelter in City Park and in 1975 he was state chairman of the WY Lions convention.He was a member of the Lander Parks & Recreation Board for 6 years, a member of the Board of Education for 7 years, chairman for one year.He was also director of the Wyoming School Board Association for 5 years, Secretary-Treasurer of Lander Rotary Club, past president of the Lander One Shot Antelope Hunt and life time member of the Elks.

He was active with the Lander Ambassadors for 7 years, president for one.He was Chairman of the Fremont County Republican Party from 1983-1985 and was appointed by the Governor to the Wyoming Economic Development Board for one term.He was president of the Wyoming Contractors Association from 1991-1992 and in 2006 he was awarded the Contractor of the Year by the Wyoming Contractors Association.

Garve loved living in Lander.He enjoyed his many friends.He was an avid reader of history, did lots of wood working and home improvement projects, loved his garden and his dog, Puff.He retired from his bridge contracting firm in 2007 and then he and Jane traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and the western U.S.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Tracy, his wife of 45 years, Jane and his nephew Colby Chapman.His ashes will be laid to rest alongside Jane and Tracy at Mount Hope Cemetery.He is survived by his daughter Stacey (Scott) Heaton, grandchildren Hannah and Luke Heaton of Lakewood, CO, his brother Gerald (Peggy) Chapman of Canon City, CO and niece Tammy Groves of Denver, CO, and his wonderful friend, Sharon Pitts of Sun City, AZ an incredible addition to his life after Jane passed.
