Freida Louise Brinda

August 7, 1921 — February 12, 2017

Freida Louise Brinda, 95, of Lander passed away on February 12, 2017 at Westward Heights Care Center. Memorial services will be held on Thursday February 16, 2017 at 10 am at the Lander Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Walter Gilroy & Pastor Phil Ferguson officiating.

Mrs. Brinda was born August 7, 1921 in Martin, South Dakota to Emma and Harold Prugh and went to be with Jesus February 12, 2017 in Lander, Wyoming.

The family moved to Nebraska when Freida was 4 after her father's death in 1925 and her mother remarried Joe Langston in 1930.

Freida married the love of her life, Elmer 'Pete' Brinda on May 18, 1940 in Ainsworth, Nebraska and they were blessed with four boys. They spent most of their lives farming.
In 1948, the family moved to The Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota where they farmed wheat, ranched cattle and managed a garage & filling station.

In 1952, the family returned to Ainsworth, Nebraska where they farmed and had cattle.

After Pete's death she moved to Wyoming where she spent the rest of her life.

Mrs. Brinda worked at the Wyoming State Training School for 10 years and then as a Foster Grandparent for 20 years and loved being a Grandma to so many children.
Her family said she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, quilting, crocheting, reading and playing cards.

She attended the Lander Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed Saturday morning trips to McDonalds and Subway with her best friend and her grandchildren and loved sharing stories of her childhood.

Anyone who knew Freida knew that she was a spunky, hard working, loving woman who considered everyone her friend and she adored children-she was everyone's Grandma. She worked hard all of her life from a very early age and raised her boys to do the same. She didn't have an easy life, but she didn't complain about it and considered herself blessed. When asked what her advice to her children and grandchildren was, she said, 'be true to yourself and be true to God'.

Survivors include her sons, Rodney Brinda and wife Sharon of Lander, Charles Brinda of Cheyenne and daughter in laws, Sharon June Brinda of North Platte & Becky Brinda of Missoula, Montana. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer 'Pete' Brinda, sons Delmer and Richard, sisters Opal, Lois, Darlene and one brother Walter. Also preceding her were her step-siblings, Mildred, Elsie, Thelma, Ernest, Lee, Oliver, Lila, Charles, one grandson and one great-grandson and her best friend Virginia Patterson.
