Carl was born November 11, 1927 in Franklin, IN to Charles and Cloe Ford.He spent a good portion of his life in the hills of North Carolina and Indiana where he met and married the love of his life Elsie Leona Reed. They married on March 24, 1949 and were together for 65 years before her passing on September 22, 2014.Together they had 10 children.
He lived in many places to include Indiana, North Carolina, Arizona and Tennessee before settling in Wyoming. While back east Carl served in the military both the Navy and Army during times of WWII and the Korean War.He worked owning and operating the Westport Motel and the Starlight Motels in Indiana, and also worked at Arvins factory while in Indiana before becoming disabled and moving to Jackson Hole. They lived in several places before settling in the Shoshoni area where he built one of two homes from the ground up and lived many years in the area trapping, hunting and fishing.Carl was a great story teller. He was well known to have nicknames for just about everyone and everything from Stinky to Pinky even having his own nickname of "Doody".He always made people laugh with his carefree mispronunciation of words. He made no attempt to correct himself or cared when someone would try to tell him the correct way to say something, he would continue with his story without skipping a beat. He loved to tell stories of his gambling wins, and they became much more animated every time he told them. Carl loved raccoons, he raised and cared for so many making them pets and they loved him.He could grow a garden like no other and always had the best advice when it came to how to grow. He enjoyed all that Wyoming had to offer. It is impossible to squeeze 87 years of memories into a brief description of a great man, the only way to simply describe him as, is unforgettable.
