Evelyn Demille Irene

October 14, 1940 — January 28, 2026

Hines, Oregon

At the age of 85, our dear wife and mother passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026. She resided at the Aspens Assisted Living Center in Hines, Oregon for the last six years and for two years prior at her daughter, Jackie & Paul Clements’ home in Burns, Oregon. The “Unsinkable Molly Brown” bravely fought the fight with Alzheimer’s and now has joined her many loved ones, who will welcome her with open arms.

Evelyn married her “Wyoming Cowboy”, John Charles Irene on Jan. 31st, 1958, LaVerkin, UT at he Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Evelyn was born and raised in her grandfather Benjamin DeMille’s two-story pioneer log home, on October 14, 1940 in LaVerkin, Utah. She was the third of four children born to Sheldon S. DeMille and Verda Duncan DeMille.

Evelyn was a wonderful advocate, encourager, homemaker, and had a strong work ethic. She enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, hunting, camping, gardening, canning, and always took pride in keeping her home neat and clean. She loved snowmobiling and went often with family and friends. They rode multiple times over the Continental Divide trail from Lander to Pinedale, Pinedale to Dubois, and in Yellowstone National Park. She loved to dance to her 50’s and 60’s music, especially Elvis!!

She was honored to be one of the committee members, who were instrumental in organizing the first Lander Mainstreet Christmas Parade. A tradition for all to enjoy to this day!

She was a school bus driver for the Lander Valley School District for 33 years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society programs. She was a force for good in her home and with everyone around her.

She and John raised four children. Patty McNiven (Kevin), Lander, WY; Penny Williams (Deron), Spring Creek, NV; Jackie Clements (Paul), Burns, OR; and Vince Irene (Debbie), Lander, WY. As a family, they were sealed in the Manti Temple on June 26, 1973.

She was called Grandma by 16 grandchildren and Great-Grandma by 41 great grandchildren.

Evelyn is survived by her loving husband John Charles Irene of Lander, WY and all her children. She is also survived by her sister VerDon Smith (Monte) of Boise, ID. Sister-in-law Caroyln DeMille. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers DuRell (Beverly) and Farrell DeMille.

She will forever be cherished and remembered, until we meet again on the other side.

Special thanks to the staff of Aspens Assisted Living Center and Hospice for all their years of love and care.
