Eugene E. Meyers, of Boulder Flat, Lander, died on April 30, 2021 in the Morning Star Care Center, Fort Washakie. Visitation will be 11:30am to 12:30pm, Friday, May 7, 2021 in the foyer of Hudson's Funeral Home, please limit guests inside to 2-4 at a time. The Graveside Service for both husband and wife will then be 1:00pm, at the Mount Hope Cemetery, with Military Honors from Fort Washakie.
Eugene Elwood Meyers of rural Lander (Boulder Flat) died April 30, 2021 at Morning Star Manor, Fort Washakie, Wyoming. He was 93 years old, and passed away due to dementia. He was a life time resident of the Wind River Reservation and an enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe.
Gene was born on October 1, 1930, north of Casper, Wyoming the son of Harry Myers and Alta Hanway Myers. He attended school at St. Stephens Boarding School.
Gene enlisted in the United States Army, serving during WWII. After being discharged from the Army, he met Luella Myers and they were married on April 24, 1948 at Thermopolis, Wyoming.
Gene started ranching about 1940 – 1950, having cattle and horses. He put up his own hay, until his son Terry was able to help, along with hired men. He was also a heavy equipment operator. He retired as a construction inspector from the Indian Health Service in 1990, during which time he inspected water and septic systems being installed on the Wind River Reservation for all eligible Indian families.
Gene was a life member of the American Legion Post #81 at Fort Washakie, Wyoming. He bowled in several leagues at Lander and traveled to a lot of National Bowling Tournaments to bowl. Luella accompanied him.
Gene also liked to hunt for arrowheads and was the happiest when fishing or game hunting with his son Terry and grandson Tom.
Gene is survived by son, Terry E. Meyers (Charlie Flute); daughter, Erma K. Meyers; grandson, Thomas E. Meyers (Kari Nelson) all of Boulder Flat; daughter-in-law, Charon Meyers of Lander; sister, Elaine Wilson of Fort Washakie; numerous nieces and cousins.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Luella Myers Meyers; parents, Harry and Alta Myers; grandparents; brothers, Elmer Jeffrey, Charles Jeffrey Sr.; sisters, Leona (Jeffrey) Hayden, Adelia (Jeffrey) Metelko, and Geraldine (Jeffrey) Pendergrass.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be mailed directly to Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
