Elizabeth Wanda Drake

December 1, 1931 — March 22, 2019

Elizabeth Wanda Drake, age 87, died Friday, March 22, 2019 at Sage West " Lander.

Visitation will be Friday, March 29, 2019 begin 9:30am in the Relief Society room of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 626 Cascade, Lander. Funeral Services will begin at 10:30am in the Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Lander, Wyoming.

Wanda was born December 1, 1931 near Sherman, Mississippi to Preston Freeman and
Hazel Christine Williams. She had two sisters and three brothers. She graduated from Mesa High School and attended Lamson Business College in Arizona.
She worked for the J.J. Newberry department store and Henry and Horne Accounting in Mesa Arizona until her marriage. After moving to Wyoming, she worked as a ticket agent for the Rawlins Flight Service, typist for Alan Sundberg Drafting, cashier at J.C. Penney's, and in the Carbon County Hospital's Business Office.
She served in the West Central States Mission from June 1954 to December 1955. Wanda married Joe C Drake Jr. in the Mesa Arizona Temple in 1962. They made their home in Arizona and in 1977 moved to Wyoming.
Wanda was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She taught in the Sunday School, Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society. She was the first Stake Relief Society President in the newly formed Globe Arizona Stake. She also served as the ward Relief Society president in Kearny, Arizona, Rawlins and Saratoga, Wyoming.
Wanda enjoyed visiting her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. She loved cooking for family. She collected recipes and poetry and enjoyed writing poetry. She enjoyed singing, as a soloist and also in duets, trio's, quartets, and choirs. She belonged to a Quilting Group and Girls Night Out Group and was an associate member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
After her husband's retirement they were called to serve a mission in the Dallas, Texas Temple from April 1992 to October 1993; They served in the Denver, Colorado Temple, from 1994-1995 and in the Ogden Utah Temple from 2001-2003.
She is survived by one son, Joe F. (Julie) Drake of Nampa, Idaho; three daughters, Laurie (Jim) Ogden of Craig, Colorado, Debbie (Vince) Irene of Lander, Wyoming, and Linda (Raul) Amparan of Chandler, AZ; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe C. Drake Jr.; father, Preston; mother, Christine; brothers, Dewayne, Jimmy and Charles; and two sisters, Juanita and Geneva.
