Earl Hunter Merryweather

December 27, 1925 — June 4, 2010

Funeral services for Earl H. Merryweather will be held Thursday, June 10th,11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 6th and Cascade, Lander.  Viewing will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services.  Interment will be in the Beaver, Utah Mountain View Cemetery Friday, June 11th, 11:00 a.m. with Military Honors.  Earl passed away June 4th, age 84, surrounded by his family.


Earl "Bud" Hunter Merryweather was born to Raymond Merryweather and Catherine Hunter December 27, 1925 in Cedar City, Utah.  After finishing high school he joined the Army Air Corps and trained at several air fields before being commissioned a 2nd Lt., piloting a P-51 fighter aircraft.  Following his military service, he met Mary Lou Tolton from Beaver and they were married December 18, 1946.  The marriage was later solemized in the Idaho Falls Temple.


Earl attended the Colorado School of Trades in gunsmithing graduating November 1, 1950. He enjoyed this trade for almost 60 years.  He returned to Cedar City and attended the BAC College after which he was employed by United States Steel, where he worked for 10 years.  The family was transferred to the Atlantic City Iron Ore Operations in Lander, Wyoming where he was a mining foreman.  He retired September 1983 with 32 years service.


He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a great love for the mountains which he shared with his children and grandchildren.


Survivors include his wife Mary Lou (married 64 years), son Alan (Sally) Merryweather, South Jordan, Utah, and daughter DeAnn (Bryan) Weekes, Park City, Utah.  Sister Rae (Bill) Kopeinig, Seattle, brother Lane (Judy) Merryweather, Sparks, Nevada.  He was blessed with seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
