Dorothy Jean Johnson

June 1, 1929 — June 30, 2014

Dorothy Jean (Hoskins) Johnson passed away on June 30, 2014 at home surrounded by her family and loved ones. A Visitation has been arranged for on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, Lander. The Funeral will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in the Bethel Lutheran Church, 626 Shoshoni, Lander, Wyoming. Cremation will then take place. Dorothy was born June 1, 1929, the only child of Dan D. and Mary Genetti Hoskins of Rock Springs, Wyoming. She grew up in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1948 and married Karl M. Johnson on July 10, 1948.
She was a very active member of the American Legion and the VFW; a member of the Wyoming Historical Society, and a conscientious member of the Lender Senior Citizens' Center. Before macular degeneration robbed her of vision, Dorothy was an excellent seamstress. She loved to crochet and create handcrafted items for her family, friends, acquaintances, and community at large.
Dorothy was the first to offer her opinion and/or comment, and was well known for her good cooking and readiness to be the first in line to take in food and goodies whenever and wherever needed. She loved to play Rummy and SkipBo with any and every one, and was very grateful for the invention of cards with large numbers and a card shuffler.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Mary Hoskins; husband, Karl M. Johnson; and many dear friends too numerous to mention. She is survived by the following children and grandchildren who she loved more than life itself: Kurt and Darlene Johnson of Sheridan, Wyoming, Karen and Don Keil of Saint George, Utah, Wayne and Linette Johnson of Hudson, Wyoming, and Wendy Johnson of Pendleton, Oregon. Dorothy had 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, but was known as "Gramma" to many, many "cookie monsters".
Dorothy will be greatly missed by all who have ever known her... a priceless woman who will forever be cherished.
Contributions may be mailed directly to Frontier Home Health & Hospice, 514 East Pershing Ave, Suite C, Riverton, WY 82501.
