Donald Newman Obituary

Donald Bem Newman, affectionately known as Don, passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on November 25, 2025, in Lander Wyoming. Born on February 25, 1951, in Carroll Iowa to Lendol H. Newman and Lurene V. Bem. Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

Don graduated from Stewart High School in 1970 and pursued higher education at Waldorf College in Iowa, where he earned an A.A. degree in 1972. The same year, December 30, 1972, he married the love of his life, Darlene Gebhard. Don continued his education at Dana College and earned a B.A. in Physical Education and History in 1974. After graduation, Don and Dar started a family, raising two sons, Michael and Scott, and later moved to Cody, Wyoming, before settling in Lander in 1979.

Throughout his life, Don was dedicated to his work and community. Working several jobs such as: Assistant Manager of Pamida, Meat Department Manager for Superfoods, ran shower units for Nu-way catering, Transportation Manager for NOLS, and a route driver for Fremont County School District #1.

Don had a great passion for sports, wrestling, football, basketball, volleyball, and especially bowling. He was involved in the Lander Men's Bowling Association as well as the Youth American Bowling Association. His hobbies included bowling, bicycling, watching sports, latch hooking, playing cards, and attending church.

Don is survived by his son, Michael (Tricia) Newman; grandchildren, Patrick Newman and Mia Hall; Sister, Linda Cambell

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Darlene, his son Scott, and his grandson Scott.

Don will be remembered for his outgoing personality, and his strong and humble nature.

A memorial service will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church in Lander (1600 Sinks Canyon Rd, Lander, WY 82520) On Friday, December 5, 2025, at 10:00a.m.

The service will be available via Zoom at Landerlutherans.org.
