Donald Robert Metzger
May 29, 1939 — April 22, 2015
Donald Robert Metzger of Lander, Wyoming left this world too soon, in a place he loved, doing what he loved to do at the family cabin they had built. Viewing will be at Hudson funeral home on May 1, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A "Celebration of Life" will be held at the Lander Valley High School 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 2, 2015.Don was born on May 29, 1939 in Columbus, Montana, to Jacob Metzger & Eva Reichert Metzger, both of Saratov Russia.
Don worked as a police officer starting his career in Thermopolis Wyoming then moving toCouer De' Alene Idaho before coming to Lander, Wyoming where he worked for 32 years before retiring as a Lieutenant for the police department. Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling the mountains and desert with his family and friends. As he earned his name "Dandy Don's Work Out World," His motto was work hard, play later. Don took volunteering to heart, he was a volunteer fireman, EMT, search & rescue, building and grooming snowmobile trails, beside the many ways he helped his family and friends, being the all around "go to" man. Many of you enjoyed his cooking through his pig roasts and the numerous parties he catered.In the recent years he split his time between his home and cabin in Lander and his Casita in Yuma, AZ. Don had a huge heart and never knew a stranger.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Eva Metzger, his brothers Jim Metzger, Melvin Metzger and his sister, Velma Jean Vass.
He is survived by his loving wife Vicki Metzger, his children;Quin (Terri) Raymond, Cori (Bobby) Arnold, Darin (Jo) Raymond, Debbie (David) Metzger, Don "Spook" (Melissa) Metzger grandchildren, Clay, Nick, Allee, Damien, Jordin, Maddi, Nick, Kaili, Aly, Landon, and Axel. Great Grandchildren, Treble and Weston and his brother, Ervin Metzger, his sister Leona Brewer and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions can be made to Vicki Metzger in lieu of flowers, so we....(kids) don't have to support her beer habit.
