Donald Eugene Jacobs, 86, a long time resident of Lander was taken into the Lord's care on the evening of February 18th' after a short stay at Morning Star Care Center in Fort Washakie. His spirit has returned to his beloved Wind River Mountains that he hunted, trapped, and fished throughout his life. He was born August 2nd, 1925, in Worthing, South Dakota, the second son of Charles and Rose (Urben) Jacobs. He grew up in the Custer S.D. area and graduated from Custer High School in 1944. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 as part of the Commissioning Crew of the U.S.S. Massey (DD-778 ). He served in combat in the Pacific Theater on his destroyer with honor and distinction. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Upon returning, from service to his country, Don began his life long career as a meat cutter in Custer. On Easter Sunday in April 1950 he married the former Florence Ella Lanouette in Custer S. D. He had enjoyed the last 62 years of marriage with Florence at his side. He worked Rough Necking in the oil fields of Wyoming and Montana, prior to coming to Lander. He arrived in the Lander area in 1953 and worked as a butcher for Safeway until he retired. He worked at the U.S. Steel Mine in Atlantic City, Nu- Way Catering of Lander, feeding Fire Fighters across the country, (including Yellowstone 1988 ), and then opened Jake's Wild Game Meat Processing on Main Street in Lander for 15 years. He was a successful small business man, great butcher, and devoted family man. He enjoyed being a "Hand" on the Jacobs Family Ranch as well as observing wildlife, always with his special smile.
Don enjoyed the outdoors, photography, family gatherings and friends. He enjoyed his hunting and fishing accomplishments as well as his mountain adventures. He hiked the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim at age 65 and drove the entire Alaska-Canada Highway on its 50th Anniversary in the summer of 1992. He took pride in his " LCC " brand worn on some cattle on the Jacobs Family Ranch located off Table Mountain.
He was a member of the Lander Elks Lodge, Freemont County VFW, the American Legion, and Denver Meat Cutters Association.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose Jacobs and older brother Dale Jacobs as well as his in-laws Frank and Mable Lanouette, whom he provided a home and care for in their latter years here in Lander. He is survived by his sister Deloris Skinner, Cheyenne, wife Florence Jacobs of Lander, son Randy and wife Roi Delene Jacobs of Lander, daughter Peggy and husband Bill Humphrey of Lander, daughter Patricia and husband Mark Keiser of Atlantic City, Wy. Six grandchildren Sunny, Graham, Tatum, Justus, TJ, and Cache ; five great¬grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews , grandnieces , and grandnephews.

A Celebration of Don's Life will be held at Mt. Hope Chapel in Lander, on Friday May 18th' with a reception to be held at the Lander Elks Lodge following the service. The time will be announced at a future date.
The Family wishes to send out a special thanks to the Hospice workers who cared for Don, at home, the eight months before he went to Morning Star. The family also would like to thank the caregivers at Morning Star, for their exceptional care of Don in his final days.
