Donald Charles Gambler

July 11, 1953 — May 5, 2024

Don Gambler's sunrise began on July 11, 1953, and his sunset was on May 5, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.  Don Gambler (Don G) was born in Thermopolis, Wyoming to Charles Gambler, Sr. and Veronica Smith Gambler. He was raised by Clark and Mollie Trumbull. He is survived by his wife Pamela Gambler, daughters Dawn Michele Gambler, Donna Marie Gambler, Morning Dawn (Zac Osborne) Gambler, Suzanna St Clair, Kara St Clair, Veronica (Paul Daw) Gambler son Daryl Gambler, Aunt Florence Trosper, and  Geri Monroe. Sisters Charlene (Don) Brown, Janie Brown, Eleanor Brown, Karen Returns to War, Helen Brown, Cheryl Grosbeck, Rebecca Hughes, Melanie Gambler, Tammy (David) Snyder, Debra Hughes, Theresa (Robert) His Chase, Ann (Delmont) Shakespeare, Salome Gambler, Linda (Jim) Large, Sarah Runningshield, and Rebecca Hanway.  Brothers Mick Spoonhunter, Ryan Gambler, Frank Decota, Paul Lawson, Dennis ONeal, Milton Trosper, Sr. Cy Lee, Elmer Blackbird, and Darnell Boyer.

Rosary will be at Blue Sky Hall on Thursday, May 9 at 7:00 PM. After the rosary Don will be taken to his home at 632 Blue Sky Highway in Ethete for the all-night wake.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 10 at 10:00 AM at Bluesky Hall in Ethete. Burial will be in White Plume Cemetery, Big Horn Draw in Ethete.  Feast will follow at Blue Sky Hall in Ethete.


Don worked for Union Carbine in the Gas Hills area in the mines in the early years.  Don was a rancher and worked with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Road Department for 30 years as an operator.  He then started work for Fremont County School District 14 Wyoming Indian Schools where he worked for 15 years as a bus driver and custodian where he then retired.


Don grew up on the Arapaho Ranch and went to school in Thermopolis.  He was a traditional man and was a Sundancer.  He was very proud of being a Saddle Bronc rider and Team Roper he enjoyed traveling to many different rodeos to compete. Don and Bryan Trosper qualified for the Indian National Finals in Senior Team Roping which he was very proud of.  He was a champion golden gloves boxer for the state of Wyoming and he traveled all over the western states.  He played basketball for St Stephens and Riverton High School.  He also enjoyed traveling the basketball circuit with the Wind River Indians where he had many good memories.  He held a rough stock school for many years and brought in Monty "Hawkeye" Henson, Gary Lewfew, and Joe Wimberely as his instructors.  He was always trying to encourage and help kids out if they wanted to be a cowboy. Don was an avid hunter and Fisherman. His life was in the mountains showing his kids and grandkids how to hunt.  He was a horsebreaker and known for his ability to train horses.  There was not a horse that he could not ride. He loved to play the guitar and sing.  When asked to sing for people he was always willing.  He was a bowler and played in pool leagues. He was always teasing and had names for everyone he met.  He was a friend to everyone and he enjoyed making friends wherever he went.


He was preceded in death by his Grandparents; George Gambler and Delores Addison,

Parents; Charles Gambler, Sr. and Veronica Smith Gambler. Step-mom; Dorothy Gambler.  Brothers; Dean Gambler, Darrel Gambler, Dallas Gambler, Darwin Gambler, David Gambler, Charles Gambler Jr, Benjamin George Gambler, Eldon Antelope, Merton Trosper, Brian Trosper, William Trosper, Keith Goggles, Patrick "Spike" Garvin, Bob Brown, Lloyd Brown, and Curt LeClair. Sisters; Donna Gambler, Sheila Hughes, Francine LoneBear, and Flora Runningshield.


Don had a huge extended family: Smith, Hanway, Brown, Willow, Spoonhunter, Jenkins, and Iron.  He had many friends and relatives from all over and if anyone is not mentioned please forgive us.
