Darlene Marie Newman, affectionately known as Dar, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on October 26, 2025, in Lander, Wyoming. Born on July 28, 1952, in Wisconsin to Erwin William Gebhard and Anna (Ann) Elizabeth Freymiller Gebhard, Dar was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister.
Dar graduated from Boscobel High in 1970 and pursued higher education at Waldorf College in Iowa, where she earned an Associate's Degree in Social Work. It was there she met the love of her life, Donald Newman, whom she married on December 30, 1972. Together, they raised two sons, Michael and Scott, and later moved to Cody, Wyoming, before settling in Lander.
Throughout her life, Dar was dedicated to her work and community. She cherished her roles as a Superintendent for Sunday School at Faith Lutheran Church and at the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). Her hobbies included reading, especially books by Danielle Steel, bowling, attending church, watching the Hallmark Channel, and spending time with children.
Dar is survived by her husband, Donald Newman; son, Michael (Tricia) Newman; grandchildren, Patrick Newman and Mia Hall; siblings, Barb (Bill) Kienbaum, Bill (Karen) Gebhard, Janet (David) Landby, Mary (Dan) Connolly, Linda Haney, and John (Renee) Gebhard; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Scott, her grandson Scott, and her brother-in-law Russ Haney.
Dar will be remembered for her strong, loving, kind-hearted, and humble nature. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church in Lander (1600 Sinks Canyon Rd, Lander, WY 82520) on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
