Charles C. Yardas passed away December 15, 2016 at Wind River Rehab in Riverton. A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00am on Monday, March 20th at the First United Methodist Church of Lander.
He was born on March 20, 1921 in Delagua, CO to Vinko and Rose Yardas. He was raised in Rock Springs, WY. As a young man he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. After returning home, he went to work in the coal mines with his father and brothers.
On May 4, 1948 he married Joetta Little. They then moved from Rock Springs to Lander; residing there for the remainder of his life. He worked for Gallagher Trucking and then worked for Fremont, Noble, and Quality Lumber Companies.
With his passion for the lumber business and incredible work ethic that followed him throughout his life he opened Valley Lumber and Supply in 1964. Operating it alongside his 3 sons and 2 grandsons.
He was very active in the Lander community. He was one of the original members of the Parks and Recreation board and received the "Outstanding Service to the Community" award. He helped establish the Lander Baseball Association. He was a member of Lander Lions, Lander Golf and Country Club, Lander Elks, Lander Valley Ventures, and Director of Leader Corp.
He was also a member of the Lander Chamber of Commerce, 37 year member of Mountain States Lumber Association, Director of First Wyoming Bank for 15 years, and was the Lander Pioneer Day's Parade Grand Marshal in 2011.
He is survived by sons Charlie (Judy), Michael, Rocky, and daughter Ann (Kelly), sister Bernice Besso of California and, sister-in-law Lenora Yardas (Albert) of Lander; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and 5 brothers and 8 sisters.
