Charlene Joyce (Podschweit) Hobscheid was born in Aurora, Illinois on July 9th, 1945 to Mildred and Claurice Podschweit. She was the youngest of three children. Charlene grew up in Aurora, where she graduated from East Aurora High School in 1963. Through mutual friends, Charlene met Robert Hobscheid. The two wed on June 6th, 1964 in Aurora, Illinois. In February of 1968, the couple welcomed their daughter, Robin Hobscheid (Walper). Charlene flourished as a mother, prioritizing that as her sole and most important job.
The family remained in Illinois until 1986, when they moved to Lander, Wyoming. Charlene remained a home-maker once in Wyoming, where she continued to enjoy taking care of her family. As life changed and their daughter grew, Charlene and Robert purchased and ran the Sears Catalog Store in Lander until April of 1993. In 1993, Charlene became a grandmother, a role in which she cherished. She thrived helping with childcare for her grandson as he grew.
Charlene was an avid bowler, participating in a women’s league. Charlene spent her days sunning herself, often found outside in the summer reading or doing a word-search. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, often going to lunch or dinner. In line with who she was, Charlene’s favorite past time was being with her family. In 2023, she welcomed her first great-grandchild, whom she doted on. She took any opportunity to hold and snuggle her great-grandson’s.
Charlene will be remembered for her kindness and family centered attitude. For those that knew her, she will be remembered as “granny”, which is who she was to almost everyone.
Charlene is proceeded in death by her husband, Robert Hobscheid; parents, Claurice and Mildred Podschweit; sister, Doreen Hauser; brother, Wayne Podschweit.
Charlene is survived by her daughter, Robin Walper (Brant); grandson Justin Walper (Breeona); great-grandson’s Carson and Bryce Walper.
