Carol Marie Williams

12 December 1941—10 February 2020

Our beloved wife and mother, Carol Marie Williams, passed away at her home in Lander, Wyoming, surrounded by family after a valiant six-year battle with cancer.  She was born on 12 December 1941 in Rawlins, Wyoming, to Dorothy "Dot" Isabell Johnson and Fondell "Dell" Scott McNiven. She lived much of her childhood in the hunting camps of her father near the Greys and Snake Rivers and attended school in Afton, Wyoming, graduating from Star Valley High School in 1960. She sang in community and church settings as a young girl and throughout her life. She met and later married the love of her life Edward Glen Williams of Rock Springs, Wyoming, on 11 October 1960.  She and her husband Glen lived most of their married life in Lander, Wyoming, where they raised their large family of eleven children.

Carol loved music and the color turquoise, being in the mountains, spending time learning the Native American ways, discovering family genealogy, nurturing her own family, and being involved politically as a patriot. She was active in Right to Life, was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, served as a member of the school board for Fremont County School District Number #1, worked as an elections judge, selected as a Republican delegate, and was steadfastly committed to the LDS Cherokee Native American Ancestry organization.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of her life serving in numerous callings including three times as a primary president, once as a relief society president, and for many years as a stake missionary on the Wind River Indian Reservation with her husband Glen. Her favorite calling was that of primary chorister.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dot and Dell McNiven; her brother Sylvan; and two grandchildren: Tony Luciano Venzor and Anna Del Venzor.

Carol is survived by her eleven children and their spouses: Fawn (Richard) Venzor, Forrest (Lisa) Williams, Melody (Del) Nelson, Shane (Debbie) Williams, Colt (Hauna) Williams, Lance (Shauna) Williams, Christal (Jason) DeVries, Echo (Randy) Breece, Quentin (Sarah) Williams, Misty Williams, and Autumn Williams; by 35 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

We express our gratitude to the staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City and especially to Dr. Tibor Kovacsovics for leading the supervision of their kind and ground-breaking care of our mother. Dr. Susan Pearson in Lander and Help for Health are also very much appreciated for their attentive medical assistance.

The funeral for Carol Marie Williams will be held on Saturday, February 15, at 10:00 am in Lander, Wyoming in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 653 Cascade Street followed by burial at Mount Hope Cemetery (805 Mount Hope Drive, Lander, Wyoming).
