Carmen Reenae Thomas, 72, of Fort Washakie, Wyoming passed away in her home on October 8, 2024. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:30pm, Monday, October 14, 2024, in the Boy's and Girls Club, 9 Shipton Ln, Fort Washakie, WY 82514. The All Night Wake will then be at the Family Home, 28 Crooked Creek Road, Fort Washakie, Wyoming. The Funeral Service will be at 10 am, October 15, 2024, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wind River Ward, 12712 US-287, Fort Washakie, WY 82514. Cremation will follow.

Carmen Thomas was born in Lander Wy, to Donald and Maxine Ute on September 28, 1952. She was raised by her Grandmother Emma Ute. Emma taught her how to tan hides, bead, sew, make jerky, cut up meat, gardening, and Shoshone Language. She attended grade school at Fort Washakie School, high school at Chilocco Indian School in Oklahoma. She attended college at the University of Wyoming (Bachelor of Science: Psychology). She worked at BIA Reality, Shoshone Finance, Child Support Director, Fremont District #14 as a Shoshone Language Teacher, First responder for the Fort Washakie Fire Department, Shoshone Culture Center, Suicide Prevention Instructor, Interpreter for the BIA & Shoshone Tribal Election. She participated in the E. Shoshone Dictionary project.
