Carl Richard Hickerson

January 30, 1926 — November 13, 2009

Carl R Hickerson of Lander died Friday November 13, 2009 at the Lander Regional Hospital. He was 83 years of age.


A memorial service will be held on Friday November 20th at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral home with Graveside services to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery with Pastor Joel Hearn of the Living Water Fellowship officiating.


Carl Hickerson was born in Fostoria, Ohio on January 30, 1926 to Harold Hickerson and Venus (Boday) Hickerson. Mr. Hickerson served in the Army Air Corp from 1944 to 1946 training on B- 17 bombers. After the end of World War II he and his family moved to Dubois, Wyoming were Carl met and later married Shirley E Redman on June 28, 1947 in Lander.


To this union three children were born Patrick, Mark and Peter Jon Hickerson. The family owned several family businesses in Dubois, including the Rock Garden Cafe now the Cowboy and the Westerner Bar & Cafe. In 1975 they moved to Lander and started a family sawmill business called Wyoming Wood Products with son's Mark and Pat.


Carl enjoyed many hobbies over the years including, camping, fishing, shooting, reloading, model airplanes, motorcycles, snowmobiles, hunting, and prospecting. He enjoyed theses hobbies even more when they included his children, grand children and great grand children. He was also active in the Black Horse Troop from Dubois. He was a lifelong supporter of the N.R.A. and a passionate supporter of Gun Ownership Rights. Carl was skilled in all aspect of operating and maintaining saw mill machinery.


Survivors include, wife Shirley; children Patrick and wife Patti, Mark and wife Ardith, of Lander, Pete and finance Denise Shultz of College Place Washington; grandchildren Tanya and husband Bruce Knell, Ryan Hickerson, Staci and husband Solan Sutton, Bree and husband Brian Martinsen. Jonathan, Jennifer and Justine Hickerson; great grandchildren, Shelby, Patrick and Brayden Hickerson, Taylor and Kortni Knell, Seth and Treyton Martinsen, and Colin Coughanour. With numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


He was proceeded in death by his parents Harold and Venus Hickerson, and Sister Mary Voyles.


Memorials may be made to the Lander Senior Center, or the Lander Pioneer Museum in care of the Hudson Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope Drive, Lander, Wyoming 82520.


Services are under the direction of the Hudson Funeral Home of Lander.
