Calvin I.J. Abbey, 82, of Lander, Wyoming, passed away on May 20, 2026, at Worland Healthcare Center in Worland, Wyoming.
Calvin was born on January 10, 1944, in Hamilton, Kansas, to Leonard Ray Abbey Sr. and Bessie Irene Moad Abbey.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Wind River Mountains and tending to his garden, especially growing tomatoes. Calvin treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren when they were young and, in later years, with his great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Calvin worked in the uranium and steel mines and held various construction jobs. He later worked for Fremont County School District No. 1, from which he eventually retired.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy Sullivan Abbey; his brother, Leonard Ray Abbey Jr.; and his sister, Bonita Greene.
He is survived by his sister, Darlene Lemen of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his children, Jarvis Wade Abbey and his wife, Christina, of Loma, Colorado, and Rachel Sonnenschein and her husband, Greg, of Shoshone, Wyoming; his grandchildren, Hannah Amos and her husband, Matt, Nathan Sonnenschein and his husband, Marcus, Sarah Sonnenschein and her husband, Andy, and Judah Sonnenschein and his wife, Jordyn; and seven great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service was held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
