Bruce Ellwood Godtfring of Bountiful, Utah and previously of Lander, Wyoming passed away peacefully on Feb. 14, 2011.
Bruce was born the son of James Henry and Dorothy Louise (Turner) Godtfring, Jan. 16, 1926 in Waterloo, Iowa. While in his Junior year of High School, Bruce was drafted by the U.S. Army for service to his country. He served with Co E, 345th Infantry Regiment as a Staff Sgt. until his discharge in May 1946. He was called again to arms in 1950 during the Korean Conflict serving with the 929th Quarter Master Unit and was discharged in September 1951. On his return from the Armed Service, Bruce attended Wyoming Seminary at Kingston, PA and Wilkes College in Wilke Barre, PA. Bruce was a member of Masonic Lodge, No. 395, A.F. and A.M. of Kingston, PA since 1949 and the Irem Temple of the Shrine of Wilkes Barre since 1950.
Bruce met the love of his life, Cay Reid, in the Spring of 1952 and they were married a few months later on the 4th of July. Shortly after that, they left Pennsylvania and followed their dreams to California. Bruce spent most of his working years with the Bell System, working for Pacific Telephone in Southern CA and later Mountain Bell in Wyoming. He retired in 1979.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Cay Godtfring with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. They have three children, Cathy Brightwell of North Salt Lake, UT, Linette (Wayne) Johnson of Hudson, WY, and Craig (Kathy) Godtfring of Spokane, WA. They also have seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Bruce is also survived by his sister, Elaine Kennedy of Chevy Chase, MD and brother, Jack Godtfring of Emmaus, PA.
A Memorial Service was held at Russon Bros. Mortuary, Bountiful, at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011. An online guest/memory book is available at www.russonmortuary.com.
A joint memorial service to celebrate the lives of Bruce and Cay will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Lander, at 3 p.m. on November 5, 2011.
