Beverly Jean Cowling

January 24, 1935 — July 1, 2015

Beverly Jean Cowling, 80, of Lander, Wyoming passed away at her home July 1, 2015.A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander at a later date.Her cremains will be placed with her beloved and much missed husband, W. Wayne Cowling.
Bev was born January 24, 1935 in Lead, South Dakota to Harry Robinson and Belinda Kayrasvopio Robinson in a private family home.She had many memorable experiences living in a number of different places around the Black Hills of SD, her most favorite being the Kayrasvopio farm at Sturgis.
She met Wayne as a young woman in Hanna Canyon, SD where their families had neighboring cabins.They married August 21, 1954 and raised four children, mentoring many others along the way.Bev and Wayne moved to Westminster, CO in 1960, and then to Lander in the summer of 1974.They had many adventures raising their family together and loved to camp, to travel with their camper and to make new friends where ever they went.After Wayne retired, they wintered in Bullhead City, AZ where they made many more great friends.
Beverly was always curious, a voracious reader, loved politics and was talented in her hobbies, her work life and loved people.She was a good listener, often hearing what was not said, and loved to give advice and to be helpful.She was not afraid to speak her mind or share her thoughts.She was the family communicator and keeper of the dates, who never forgot a birthday, anniversary or other important event in the lives of those she loved.
Beverly worked at a number of different jobs to help support the family.In Lander, she worked as Supervisor of the Clothing Department at what was then the Wyoming State Training School.She also filled in at the day care facility for children of employees at WSTS. While there, she advocated for many of the residents and was legal guardian for Charles "Bingo" McFarland, who became a very special member of the family.Bev was also very proud to have been a Fremont County Election Judge for many years.
She is survived by daughter Lori Cowling, sons Bill & wife Charity Cowling, John & wife Wannetta Cowling, and Kevin & wife Pamela Cowling.Also her grandchildren Crysta & Ma'Quela White, Tamzy Lamphier, Curt & Gail Merrill, Kristy & Shawn Nelson, Joshua Williams and Brittany & Matt McBride; great-grandchildren Chante Merrill & Scott Hatcher, and Timothy & Zachary Nelson.She is also survived by her sister Colleen Meyers of Rapid City, SD, sisters-in-law Margie Robinson of Sioux Falls, SD, Linda & Leonard Serdiuk of Lander, WY and brothers-in-law David Cowling of Denver, CO and Wilbert Lammi of Kettle River, MN.There are also numerous nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many cousins and special friends.She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, sister Lynell Robinson Lammi, brother Jim Robinson, sister-in-law Betty Drew Cowling, sister-in-law Mary Lou Cowling Filibeck and husband Bob Filibeck.
Memorial contributions may be made in Beverly's name for trees at Mount Hope Cemetery or to a qualified Homeless and Disabled Veterans charity of choice.
