Betty Leone Hudspeth, 91, of Lander, Wyoming passed away on April 1, 2016. Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm, Friday, April 8th at the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander; a visitation will be held from 12:00pm-1:00pm prior to the Funeral Service. Burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.
Betty Leone Hudspeth was born in Red Canyon, Wyoming, on May 24, 1924.She was the sixth child born to pioneer parents Archie Clarence "Dutch" Appleby and Leone Laird.
Betty attended school at Red Canyon and Fremont County Vocational High School.After graduating Betty went to work for AT&T phone company for many years. She married Henry "Hank" Hudspeth, a contractor, in Lander.They later became partners with Warren Majors and were involved in the uranium mining business. Together they were avid rock hounds. Hank passed away while prospecting jade on one of their claims. They had been happily married for over 50 years.
Betty loved visiting with people, playing cards with family, and going out to the casinos to try her luck. She was active in the F.C.V.H.S. Alumni Association as record keeper for many years.
Betty is survived by stepdaughter, Marjorie Hudspeth LeClair and husband, John of Arizona and their three children; step grandchildren Patrick Hudspeth and Christine Wilcox; nephews Jack C Appleby, DeWayne Appleby, Gary "Jake" Appleby, and Don Jacks;nieces Cindy Thompson, Meg Simpson,Cathy Janish, Beth Weyer; and sister-in-law Margaret Appleby.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents;husband;stepsonHenry "Hank"Hudspeth, Jr.;sisters Lillian,Clara Reynolds,Eva Scoggan, andMay Wenger;brothers Edward,Kenneth,andJames "Jack";nephewsGordon Darlington,Edward Appleby;andnieceBarbara Meyers.
