Arleigh Joseph Armajo, 76, passed away peacefully in his home on December 30, 2025 surrounded by his children and Geech.

Arleigh Joe was born on July 6, 1949 in Ft. Washakie, Wy. to the late Hiram Frank and Mary Belle (Shotgun) Armajo. His Arapaho name was Heecese’eit.

He lived most of his life on the Wind River Reservation where he spent his days hunting, fishing, helping people, and caring for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He worked for the Northern Arapaho Housing Program and Northern Arapaho Tribe for over 37 years. When he wasn’t at home, one could find him at garage sales, the casino, thrifting, or in the mountains. Arleigh Joe lived a Northern Arapaho way of life.

Arleigh is survived by his children: Donald (Missy) Armajo and Dara (Jason) Jefferson, stepchildren: Maquikash and Keva Youngbear, god son: Charlie O’neal grandchildren: Sherilyn Hebah, Jason (Sheyenne), Deidra, Echo, and Marybelle Armajo, Ahnoong (Graylen) and Sitara (Larnell) Xaivong, Bemitaka and Benny Jefferson, Curtis and Suriya Youngbear, and Matthew and Lyric Chingman, great-grandchildren: Lailoni, Madison, DancinBear, and Bexlee Posey, J’taiya, Kane, and Marvel Armajo, Arabella Karlene Manzanares Avon and Everleigh Chingman, and Isaac and I’shaan Frankson.

Brothers: Darrell O’ Neal, Pat (Chippa) Goggles, George (Rebecca) Leonard, Bruce (Suzie) Groesbeck, Bryan Groesbeck, and Gerald Loneman. Sisters: Eva (Muff) Magnan, Cara Moon, Kenzie Lopez, Trina (Ray) Nation, Helen Faye Brown, Jenny Brown, Karen Returns To War, Cheryl Rouillard, Reva Hill, and Gladys Chingman. Aunts: Laverne Quiver, Julia Whiteman, Rose Marie Oldman, Roberta Eagle, and Carla Geboe.

And numerous other relatives who loved him and were loved by him. We do not mean to leave anyone out and please know that we appreciate everyone who cared for him.

AJ will be welcomed by his wife of 43 years, Karlene, his parents, son Robert Leon Hebah, grandmothers Constance Shotgun, Martha Groesbeck, and Bertha Oldman, grandfathers John Shotgun and George Quiver. Brothers Julian, Frankie, and Chester Armajo, Arlen and Dean Chingman. Sisters Rosalie Armajo, Sharon Addison, Ramelda Panzetanga, Eunice Mae Coronado, and Esther Oldman. Aunts Ruth Sanchez, Sally Marquez, Elmira Shotgun, Lillian McAdams, Vivian Chingman and Catherine Loneman. Uncles Felix, Bruce , and George Groesbeck, Gabriel and Franklin Armajo, John Shotgun, Albert and Ed Quiver and his Godmother Annie Wanstall.

A visitation will be held at the Blue Sky Hall in Ethete on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. with an all-night wake following at the family home (552 Ethete Rd., Ethete, WY 82520).

The funeral service will be held at the Blue Sky Hall in Ethete on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
