Arbie Lund Mettz

Arbie Lund Mettz, 94, passed away on February 9, 2016. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services.

Arbie Lund Mettz was born May 19, 1921, in Oshkosh, Nebraska to Clarabelle (Rentzsch) and Charlie Lund. The Lund family moved from Oshkosh to Lander in 1922. Arbie's father opened up the C.A. Lund Saddle and Harness Shop on the corner of 4th and Main in Lander. In 1929 the Lund family purchased 360 Main Street and the property remained in the family until 1995.

Arbie and her brother Carl attended the Lander schools 1st through 12th grade. Arbie graduated from H.S. in 1939. Her brother Carl was diagnosed this Multiple Sclerosis as a young man; he participated in an experimental drug treatment program at the Mayo Clinic before succumbing to the disease in 1949.

Arbie married O.D. (Orval) Mettz in 1947. They moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and remained there for 25 years until retirement. Arbie worked for Gulf Oil and U.S. Army Corp of Engineers as a Cartographic Draftsman. During her tenure at the Corp they built 59 dams and reservoirs.

After retirement Arbie and Orval traveled extensively. Spending their winters in Mexico, returning to Lander in the summer months. After Orval's death in 1995, Arbie continued her travels before settling down in Lander. In 2010, Arbie was honored to serve as the Grand Marshal for Lander's 4th of July parade.

Arbie was preceded in death by her husband Orval, parents
Clarabelle and Charlie, and her brother Carl. She is survived by her friends Bob and Jeri Trebelcock, their children and grandchildren.
