Alvena Rose Augustine passed away on February 25th, 2026, at her home in Mill Creek, WY. Her family gathered by her side and comforted her until the end. She was born on August 11th, 1957, in Lander, WY.
She met her husband, Herbert Augustine Sr., in 1975. Later, the couple married in Idaho. With this union, 4 children were born. She returned to Wyoming in the 1980s, and time and time again, she found comfort where she was born and with her Arapaho People.
Alvena Rose Augustine, “Albert” to those who knew her, was an active and vibrant person. She was hardly idle and liked to keep moving. Although she began her early life in the LDS Church, she also carried faith in her Arapaho way of life and participated in ceremony, especially those sponsored by her brothers or her children. She was unabashed about the power of prayer and was always praying for others and asking for prayers for her family.
She was most fulfilled when she was putting action into her prayer by helping people. She was an educated woman, graduating from Central Wyoming College with a Master's in Social Work, with which she worked for her tribe and notably for the Colorado River Indian Tribe in Parker, Arizona. She met many people through her work with Fremont Counseling, Wind River Hotel & Casino, and H&R Block. Wherever she went, she was a force of community.
Alvena is survived by her Sons: Herb Jr. (Brittney) Augustine, Ernie (Rosie) Brown, George (Tracy) Abeyta, Jermaine Bell, DaleRay C’hair(Aimee) Everette (Phillis) Yellowman of Pawnee, Oklahoma; Daughters: Verna (Ty Bearcomesout) Augustine, Rosemary, Andrea and Beth Oldman, Jennifer Fragua; Brother: Anslem Lee Sr, Lindy (Irene) Lamone of Page, Arizona; Sisters: Karen (Daniel) C' Hair, Peggy Loneman, and Anna Loneman, Melain Jenkins, Theresa Augustine of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Grandchildren: Herb Augustine III, D'andre Augustine, Darian Augustine, Awndrell Augustine, Juwan Willow, Ferlon Jr. (Josie) Willow, Jerrell Tillman, Charlie Benally, Charlize Benally, Calsie Augustine of Tsalie, Arizona, Hayden Goggles, Dinayla Augustine, Ammy Augustine, Rhianna Spoonhunter of Browning, Montana, Great-Granddaughter: Evalyn Augustine.
