Adam Alvin Anderson, 35, of Riverton, Wyoming, formerly of Bangor, Wisconsin, passed away on February 15, 2026, following a horse-related accident. Adam was born June 21, 1990, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to James Anderson and Julie (Jerome) Anderson.
Growing up alongside his siblings, Ashley and Austin, Adam was never far from a horse or the outdoors. Whether riding horses or driving six up on the plow, he was a true horseman. He spent many summers farming, making hay, traveling to horse sales and riding horses for others—a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. From a young age, Adam wore a cowboy hat and boots and it was clear early on that the western way of life spoke to him. Adam graduated from Bangor High School in 2008 and shortly after followed his calling west, building a life rooted in the land and lifestyle he loved.
It was at a horse sale that Adam met Steve and Ryan Castagno, a meeting that would shape the rest of his life. What began as a conversation about work led him to Riverton, Wyoming, where he would live, work and become part of the Castagno family for nearly 18 years.
Adam spent his winters feeding horses and training colts and his summers guiding trail rides and driving stagecoach. He worked between Riverton and Jackson Hole, WY, assisting with ranching and farming as a trusted right-hand man. During hunting season, he packed mules, set up and took down camps and rode into the mountains to bring out elk. He rose before dawn to ensure others were warm and cared for, never asking for recognition—simply taking care of what needed to be done. He was dependable in every season, in every kind of weather and in every kind of need.
Adam was fearless and confident, with a spirit strong enough to tame the Wild West. He was one of the hardest workers you could ever know and never backed down from a challenge. Quiet in nature, Adam carried himself with steady confidence and a regal presence that spoke for itself. He was kind, dependable and genuine. He had a special place in his heart for children and was deeply loved by family and friends. While he always cherished coming home to visit, the West was where his heart belonged.
He showed up for others in every way—whether offering a helping hand, quiet support or simply someone to listen. He took pride in being needed and in making life easier for those around him. He was not just a hired hand—he was family to the Castagno’s, a steady presence and a rock to those who knew him best.
Surrounded by those who loved him and lifted by the thoughts and prayers of so many, Adam passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord in Casper, Wyoming.
He is survived by his parents, James Anderson and Julie (Jerome) Anderson; his siblings, Austin Anderson and Ashley (Anderson) Buchner; and his beloved niece and nephews, Emmett, Hayden, Wylie and Cooper. His Grandmothers Barbara Anderson and Karen Jerome. His aunts and uncles; Terri Anderson, Sheila (Stan Schaller) Anderson, Connie (Joel) Anderson, Paula (Dan Gerke) Anderson, Tammy (Michael) Groom, Michelle (Adam) Hesselberg, Rhonda (Charles) Antony, Lawrence (Andi) Anderson Jr, Leonard Antony, Beth Pfaff and Curt (Tiffany) Jerome.
He is also remembered by cousins, extended family and many friends including childhood best friend Jesse (Cassie) Martin. Adam is also survived by his Wyoming family: Steve and Niki Castagno; Torie and Robert Henry and their children, Fallon and Waverly; Reegan and Wyatt and their children, Paisley and Boden; Kinzie and Jacob Bentlege; Ryan and Tracy Castagno; Brayden and Emily Castagno and their children, Scottie and Briggs; and Kirby and Justin Castagno.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lawrence Anderson Sr. and Sidney Jerome, his aunt, Laura Antony and uncles Earl Gossett and Alvin Morvant.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, at First Presbyterian Church in Bangor, Wisconsin, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, followed by a celebration of Adam’s life at 1:00 p.m. at The Log Cabin in Bangor, WI.
Life is a treasure and Adam made the most of every moment. He lived more fully than most could in a lifetime, his family hopes to carry that same passion forward in the way we live our own lives.
Ride on, Cowboy.
